a pet sitter perspective on dealing with separation anxiety

As a caretaker and owner of a pet care business, I can see a large number of animals coping with the fear of being separated from their owners. Fortunately, based on my background in dog training and animal behavior, I can best help cope with being alone.

First, let's define the separation anxiety. This is a term that is often misused because genuine separation anxiety is a real chemical imbalance in which the dog or animal in question can not stand the stress of being alone, just like a normal animal. ,

The true fear of separation is quite rare. Most often, pets are scared that is caused by separation. In other words, a training problem that can be solved through training or management rather than chaos.

For the purpose of this article, and in relation to pet care, I will use the term separation anxiety to refer to any kind of nervousness associated with loneliness. Here are some tips to solve this problem:

1- The routine and the schedule are the key. In most cases your program does not have to be set in stone, but certain things have to happen at important times of the day. In general, your pet should be fed at certain times, go to bed at certain times, go for a walk at certain times, and so on. a time to make sure that the animal is well cared for.

2- Train your pet. Dog walks and other activities for dogs and other pets are essential. Exercise has the ability to release calming and satisfying chemicals into the blood. Rent a dog walker if you can not exercise your pet.

3- Mental stimulation. In cats or dogs, this can be important. Dogs need daily training and the idea of letting a cat sit all day is not good. Give your friend something to do with his mind and help him deal with fear. If you can not provide it during the day, hire a caretaker or animal care company from home and give it to your pet.

If you can follow these simple instructions and apply common sense, it is likely that your pet will be better able to deal with the fear of being left alone.
